How can I tell when my home needs a nail pop repair?
A nail pop repair is needed when the head of a nail pops through the face of the drywall & the joint compound covering it. In essence, a nail pop is the opposite of fastener depression. The most common place for nail pops to show up are on walls. However, nail pops can occur anywhere on the face of a drywall panel where nails are located.
What causes nail pops?
Nail pops may be caused by lumber shrinkage, warped lumber, improper fastener count or fasteners not seated to the correct depth.
When are nail pops most likely to appear?
In newly constructed homes, nail pops can occur any time after the structure has been built up to several years later.
What if my home has widespread nail pops along with significant stress cracks?
If your home has developed widespread nail pops & stress cracks throughout the structure, after evaluating your home we may recommend contacting a structural engineer. A few stress cracks and or nail pops in your home's drywall may be normal. However, widespread nail pops & stress cracks may indicate a much more serious underlying condition.
