My plaster ceiling collapsed what could’ve caused this?
Outside of water damage & structural damage, fractured keys are one of the most common causes of plaster ceiling collapse. Plaster keys hold the plaster to the lathe and can become fractured by structural settlement and or movement in the structure caused by freeze & thaw cycles. Over time the weight of the plaster causes more keys to fracture leading to ceiling sagging and then possibly a ceiling collapse.
